Who is Carl Linnaeus?

Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778) was a Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist who laid the foundations for modern taxonomy. His system of classification, known as binomial nomenclature, is the basis of scientific naming today. He also developed a system of plant classification based on their reproductive organs and structures. Linnaeus is also credited with introducing the concept of species as distinct entities in biology.
