What is the point of description?
The point of describing something is to make the thing that is less known as knowable as a thing that is more known.
“…the more minutely you describe, the more you will confuse the mind of the reader and the more you will remove him from knowledge of the thing described."
What makes good description?
Description has to compare the object to something recognisable
Good description uses synesthesia to see things in a different but recognisable way
Good description is about a few well chosen details that make a thing unique
All description is a sort of Synecdoche
In this passage, an impossible adjective is used to describe something. The comparison is similarly impossible.
