WEASELS, ERMINE, MINKS AND SABLES | Facts and Details.
Ermine—also called stoat, short-tailed weasel, or Bonaparte weasel—is a northern weasel species that turn white in the winter.
What is an ermine?
An ermine is a small mammal found mainly in northern parts of Europe, Asia and North America. It is a member of the Mustelidae family, which includes weasels, stoats, ferrets and minks. Ermines have long slender bodies with short legs and thick fur. The fur is typically brown with white fur on its underside and tail. In winter, ermines turn almost completely white to camouflage themselves from their predators in the snow. They are active during the day and feed mainly on small mammals like mice and voles.
