What is libertarianism?

Libertarianism is an ideological belief system that holds that the only justifiable purpose of government is to protect individual rights, and to do so by strictly limited government interference in personal, social, and economic affairs.

It is based on the idea that each person has the right to life, liberty and property.

Libertarians support free markets, free trade, civil liberties and personal freedom.

They oppose state intervention in private economic matters such as taxation, regulations, subsidies and public ownership of businesses.
