Who is Michael Soulé?
Michael Soulé is an American conservation biologist, environmental activist, and professor emeritus of environmental studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is widely considered to be the "father of conservation biology," having coined the term in 1980 and helped to establish it as a distinct scientific discipline. He has written extensively on topics such as endangered species management, human-caused habitat destruction, population dynamics, and rewilding strategies. He has also been a long-time advocate for wilderness protection and animal rights.
Soulé's work focuses on the importance of preserving earth's remaining wild areas and species biodiversity in order to maintain healthy ecosystems.
He believes that humans have a responsibility to take care of the planet and its biodiversity, rather than plundering it for short-term economic gain. His writings have been influential in shaping modern conservation efforts around the world.
