Who is Oscar Wilde?

Oscar Wilde was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist, and poet. He was born on October 16, 1854, in Dublin, Ireland and died on November 30, 1900, in Paris, France.

Wilde is best known for his witty and satirical plays such as "The Importance of Being Earnest" and "Lady Windermere's Fan". He also wrote several novels including "The Picture of Dorian Gray" which is considered to be a classic of English literature.

Wilde was known for his flamboyant personality and extravagant lifestyle. He was a prominent figure in London society during the late Victorian era and was known for his involvement in the aesthetic movement.

Despite his success as a writer, Wilde's personal life was plagued by scandal. In 1895 he was convicted of homosexuality which was illegal at the time and sentenced to two years' hard labour. His health deteriorated during his time in prison and he never fully recovered.
