Who were the Scottish colourists?

The Scottish Colourists were a group of four artists who worked in the early 20th century in Scotland and were influenced by French and Post-Impressionist art. They included J.D. Fergusson, C.R. Mackintosh, G.L Hunter and E.A. Hornel, who all worked in a variety of mediums including oil paintings, watercolours and pastels to explore the effects of colour on their artwork. They are known for their vivid use of colour, strong sense of pattern and design, as well as their experimentation with different techniques such as mixed media and collage. The work of these four artists has had a lasting influence on Scottish art, inspiring new generations of painters to explore the use of colour in their own work.
